Bon vendredi,

Happy Friday,

As we wrap up another week at Chinook Park, we’re grateful for the stretch of much‑improved weather that lifted everyone’s spirits. Our Pink Shirt Day assembly was a true highlight; students engaged in thoughtful conversations about kindness, empathy, and taking care of one another. A heartfelt thank you go out to our Grades 1–2 students for putting the assembly together, and to our Grade 4–5 students who created the fantastic joke and kindness‑quote boards in our hallways.

Looking ahead, next week marks the beginning of Mois de la Francophonie in Alberta, a celebration of French language and culture across the province. You can learn more about the initiative on the Government of Alberta’s website, and we’ve included additional details about our school’s celebrations in the section below.

Mois de la Francophonie

March marks Mois de la Francophonie in Alberta, and we’re excited to continue celebrating this important event at Chinook Park with all of our students! From March 09 to 20, students will take part in a variety of activities that highlight and celebrate French language and culture. Festivities will include school assemblies, engaging classroom activities, an outdoor Carnaval, la tire d'érable (maple taffy) treat, and a special presentation.

As in previous years, Carnaval is our biggest event and wouldn’t be possible without the support of our amazing parent volunteers! This year’s celebration will take place on March 12. If you’re able to lend a hand, please sign up using the link below—we’d love to have you join the fun!

Bistro français

During our French month celebrations, we will be sharing crepes with our students to have them experience French Canadian cuisine. We need a parent/guardian volunteer (or two) for each classroom to bring in crepes for the students on Friday, March 13.  We will provide maple syrup.

If you would like to contribute to our class celebration and experience by bringing in crepes, please sign up using the following link:

Gymnastics Unit

This is our final week of the gymnastics unit, and we will be deploying the climbers! As we wrap up this portion of our PE program, please help us keep safety at the forefront by ensuring students are prepared for active movement.

Clothing: Students should wear comfortable bottoms that allow for easy movement. Leggings, tights (without feet), or sweatpants are ideal. Please avoid jeans or any pants with pockets, belt loops, or zippers, as these can catch on the equipment.

  • Hair: Long hair should be tied back securely with an elastic.
  • Jewelry: Please keep jewelry at home. Students will be asked to remove watches and any jewelry before participating.
