Bon Vendredi,
Happy Friday,
The snow brought plenty of energy and excitement! We saw great creativity around snow forts and other constructions. We are reminding students that those constructions are temporary and may sometimes get damaged. Students should also keep the snow on the ground and not engage in snowball fights for everybody’s safety.
We were pleased that most students were well prepared for the abrupt change in weather! More information from the CBE on weather, transportation delays and school operation can be found here: Link.
Halloween Activities
We are looking forward to having some Halloween fun again this year on Thursday, October 31!
Costume and parade
On the 31st, students are welcome to come dressed in their Halloween costumes. A friendly reminder that some of our staff get scared easily and so do some of our younger students, so please keep weapons or gory accessories at home.
Parents/guardians are invited to a whole school costume parade at 12:45pm. If you want to attend, please come in through the office entrance and we will gather in the gym to cheer on our students!
Our morning Kindergarten classes will have a mini parade at 9:00 am.
Great pumpkin contest
BOO! It’s that spooky time of year. In keeping up with this yearly ECPS tradition, all families are invited to participate in our pumpkin carving contest again this year. Please see more information on our website: Link
Halloween Candy
We know that kids are excited and tempted about Halloween candy, however children learn best with healthy breakfasts and snacks. We ask families to limit sending candy to school with a maximum of 2 small candies for after lunch.
Remembrance Day Assembly
On November 7, Chinook Park will be hosting a Remembrance Day Assembly. We will be welcoming parents and sharing students’ work and performances. More details will be posted next week.
Message from CBE Indoor Environmental Quality - Radon Testing
Dear Parents/Guardians;
This fall the CBE will be conducting tests for radon gas in a number of schools across our system, including ours. Radon gas is odorless, tasteless and comes naturally through the soil. When the gas reaches unsafe levels, over many years of exposure, the gas is known to have harmful effects on health. If testing reveals a heightened presence of radon, various mitigation strategies can be implemented to reduce the gas concentration to safe levels.
Testing involves hanging a small, round testing device (alpha tracker) for 91 days from the ceiling in areas of the school that are occupied 4 or more hours a day. The device is passive, which means it omits no information, sounds, or smells.
The device will be installed on a non-instructional day, evening or weekend, so it will not interrupt learning.
If you would like to learn more about radon, please visit Health Canada’s website: https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/health-risks-safety/radiation/radon.html
Thank you,
