Bon Vendredi! Happy Friday!

It’s been a busy and exciting week at Chinook Park! Students in Mr. Davis, Mr. Morand, M. Mathieu, Ms. Weicker, Ms. Blakely, Ms. Woelfle, and Ms. Bowd’s classes had a great time visiting the Telus Science Centre. A big thank you to teachers for organizing and to our volunteers for helping make this trip such a fun and engaging experience for everyone!

With the cold weather, we stayed inside for recess most of the week. While we always prefer being outdoors for recess, students made the most of their time playing 9-Square and Table Tennis in the activity room or enjoying games in the library.

A quick reminder that next week is Teacher Convention, and there will be no school on Thursday and Friday. This is an important time for professional development, allowing staff to learn and collaborate to continue providing great education for our students. students.

Grade 5-6 Options

We are excited to introduce a brand-new opportunity for our Grade 5-6 students - options classes! Last week, students selected their top choices from a variety of engaging subjects, including Drama, Foods, Fabrication Technology (design and 3D printing), Coding for Beginners, Engineering 101, Excellence in Sport, Choir, and Art.

Classes will be finalized next week, and students will begin their first option on February 21. Each student will explore two subjects of interest, with each class running four times on alternate Fridays. While we will do our best to grant everyone their top choices, we appreciate flexibility as we launch this new program.

This is our first go at options, and we are committed to making it a fun and valuable experience while working out any kinks for the future!

Black History Month

February is Black History Month; this year’s theme is: “Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations.” This theme acknowledges the diversity of Black Canadians, the importance of Black leadership and the legacy being built for future generations. Black communities are diverse at many levels. Those with a long history in this country have established a legacy for the newer communities. The theme underscores that Black Canadians have a rightful place in the nation's narrative, with over 400 years of historical presence on these Indigenous lands, deserving acknowledgment and celebration.

Staff and students will participate in a variety of activities to celebrate, learn and grow as a school community.

We invite all Canadians to learn more about Black Canadian communities, and how they continue to help shape Canada.

Pick-up and drop-off reminder

A reminder to all families that there should be no drop-offs in the staff parking lot. Lately, we have noticed more cars entering the lot and turning around, which creates safety concerns for students and staff. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school grounds safe and orderly for everyone.
