Our weekly message is arriving a little earlier than usual as we wrap up our short three‑day week. A reminder that Teacher Convention takes place this Thursday and Friday, so there will be no school as staff engage in valuable professional learning and development. Although we won’t be in class for Valentine’s Day this year, it was wonderful to see the excitement and joy it brought to students throughout the week. Wishing you all a wonderful and restful Family Day long weekend!
Celebrating Black History Month
This February, our school is proud to celebrate Black History Month by honoring the many contributions of Black Canadians, past and present, who have shaped our communities, culture, and country. Inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.’s words, “Find a voice in a whisper,” students have been exploring an important question: How can I use my voice?
Throughout the month, students are engaging in classroom discussions, school-wide activities, and creative displays that highlight Black history, achievements, and stories. Our library and learning spaces feature a rich variety of books and stories by and about Black Canadians, encouraging curiosity, empathy, and reflection.
Together, we are learning that even small voices can make a meaningful difference.
Mois de la Francophonie
March marks Mois de la Francophonie in Alberta, and we’re excited to continue celebrating this important event at Chinook Park with all of our students! From March 09 to 20, students will take part in a variety of activities that highlight and celebrate French language and culture. Festivities will include school assemblies, engaging classroom activities, an outdoor Carnaval, la tire d'érable (maple taffy) treat, and a special presentation.
As in previous years, Carnaval is our biggest event and wouldn’t be possible without the support of our amazing parent volunteers! This year’s celebration will take place on March 12. If you’re able to lend a hand, please sign up using the link below—we’d love to have you join the fun!

Gymnastic Unit in PE
As we set up the gymnastics equipment in the gym for the next two weeks, we remind families for safety reasons, to help your child dress appropriately for the activity.
- Comfortable bottoms which allow for easy movement. Leggings, tights (no feet) or sweatpants are ideal. Please avoid jeans or other pants with pockets, belt loops, and zippers, as these items can catch on equipment.
- Hair - Please ensure long hair is tied back with an elastic.
- Jewelry- keep jewelry at home for February. Students will be asked to remove jewelry and watches prior to participating in this activity.

Join us for the École Chinook Park School Fundraising Dinner at Brewsters in Lake Bonavista (755 Lake Bonavista Dr. SE #176) on Sunday, February 22 from 4–8 PM.
Tickets are $26 per person, which includes:
- Fountain pop
- Your choice of:
- Beef burger with fries or salad
- Chicken burger with fries or salad
- Korean tacos with fries or salad
- Pizza
Please purchase tickets with a selected arrival time. No physical tickets will be issued—your name will be on the guest list at Brewsters. Kids are welcome!

School Council would also like families to know that an online 50/50 raffle through Rafflebox is currently being planned as part of our fundraising efforts. Details will be shared once everything is finalized.
