Bon Vendredi!
Happy Friday!
It has been another wonderful week at Chinook Park School, full of learning and celebrations. On Thursday, we were delighted to celebrate Culture Day and see our school come alive with traditional outfits and delicious foods being shared. It was a great way to honour the diversity that makes our community so special. Last Friday also marked our final Wellness Day of the year and a lovely Mother’s Day tea in our Grade 1 French Immersion classes.
This week also wrapped up our final Option Friday for our older students. These days have been a great opportunity for students to explore interests, build new skills, and connect with other peers in the school!
A reminder that there is no school on Friday, as staff will be participating in a professional development day.
We wish all families in our community a meaningful Mother’s Day weekend!
Artist in Residence
It has been awesome to see our Artist in Residence at work on the board in the main hallway. Students have been truly mesmerized as the piece continues to take shape, often pausing to watch the process and ask thoughtful questions. The project is progressing beautifully, and we are excited to see it come together as it adds creativity and inspiration to our shared spaces.
Outdoor Weather Reminders
With the warmer weather, it has been great to see students enjoying more time outside. Many students are especially enjoying playing baseball-type games. As a reminder, bats (including baseball or cricket bats) and hard baseballs are not permitted. We have been using tennis balls to help keep play safe and prevent injuries. Soccer cleats are also not allowed.
We ask that students leave personal items and toys at home, including Pokémon cards, which have made a big return recently. This helps ensure recess remains safe, fair, and fun for everyone and avoids unnecessary sadness if items are lost or damaged.
Spring Music Showcase
Our Grade 4-6 French and Gr 5-6 English classes will be showcasing their hard work on Thursday, May 14th at 6 pm. Students are asked to arrive by 5:40pm and go directly to their classroom. School Council has also organized a 50/50 draw. Tickets can be purchased by cash or card - $5 each or 3 for $10. All proceeds go to your School Council
There will also be a dress rehearsal at 1pm for grandparents and other family members to come watch.
Message from school council and community partners
Parent volunteer appreciation night coming soon!
Please join us for an appreciation night to all parent volunteers. This night will include speaker ‘How to Connect with child’ presented by Kelly Reissig, an experienced social worker, counsellor who specializes in parenting. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Details to follow.
ECPS Courtyard and Garden Update
The courtyard committee is looking for volunteers to help in the courtyard for basic gardening, weeding and watering. Although the more the kids can be involved, the better, there is still some organizational and logistics that need to be done each spring and fall for our pollinator and vegetable gardens. I am also looking for someone to replace my role as the lead of this committee as my time at the school is done at the end of June with my grade 6 student leaving for junior high!
If you have a green thumb, or are interested in doing some gardening at our school In May & June, or in the fall, please contact Carmen at chinookparkschool.courtyard@gmail.com Time commitment is very flexible!
Electronics Collection
Students from Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School reached out to share an initiative they are leading to collect unwanted electronics and help reduce clutter. They are promoting responsible recycling and community involvement.
Please see the information they shared with us below if you are interested in participating.
