Bon Vendredi!

Happy Friday!

We are so proud of our students who prepared so thoughtfully and performed so beautifully at last night’s Spring Concert. Thank you to our families for joining us and supporting our performers. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Mrs. Postchaman and all of our staff for the time, care, and dedication that went into rehearsals and preparation. Events like this take a tremendous amount of behind-the-scenes work, and we are grateful to our team for making the evening such a success.

As we head into the May long weekend, we want to wish all our families a safe and relaxing break. We hope you enjoy the extra time together!

Outdoor Weather Reminders

With the warmer weather, it has been great to see students enjoying more time outside. With more time playing cooperative sports, we are supporting students in building strong play skills and guiding them through conversations when competition becomes a challenge.

Many students have been enjoying playing baseball-type games. As a reminder, bats (including baseball or cricket bats) and hard baseballs are not permitted. We have been using tennis balls to help keep play safe and prevent injuries. Soccer cleats are also not allowed.

We ask that students leave personal items and toys at home, including Pokémon cards, which have made a big return recently. This helps ensure recess remains safe, fair, and fun for everyone and avoids unnecessary sadness if items are lost or damaged.

Artist in Residence

We are thrilled to celebrate the completion of our school’s collaborative mural, created in partnership with our talented Artist in Residence, Natalia Ionescu. This vibrant piece is truly a reflection of our entire school community; every student had a hand in its creation, each leaving their unique fingerprint as a lasting mark on the artwork.

Throughout the process, students also contributed their ideas during the planning stages, helping to shape the themes and imagery that now bring the mural to life. This week, classes will have the opportunity to visit the mural with their teachers, exploring the different symbols, colours, and stories woven into the design. These visits will invite students to reflect on the meaning behind the images and reconnect with their own contributions to this shared work of art.

We extend our sincere thanks to Ms. Ionescu for guiding our students through such a meaningful and creative experience. The mural stands as a beautiful reminder of collaboration, identity, and the power of artistic expression in our school community.

Grade 6 Provincial Achievement Tests

Next week marks the beginning of Provincial Achievement Tests for our Grade 6 students, with the French Language and Literature Part A written component taking place on Tuesday, May 19 at 9:00 a.m. and English Language and Literature Part A on Monday, May 25 at 9:00 am. We wish all of our Grade 6 students the very best as they showcase their learning and hard work! As always, we’ll be reminding all students to keep hallways extra quiet during the testing period to help create the best possible environment for focus and success.

ECPS Courtyard and Garden Update:

The courtyard committee is looking for volunteers to help in the courtyard for basic gardening, weeding and watering.  Although the more the kids can be involved, the better, there is still some organizational and logistics that need to be done each spring and fall for our pollinator and vegetable gardens.  I am also looking for someone to replace my role as the lead of this committee as my time at the school is done at the end of June with my grade 6 student leaving for junior high!

If you have a green thumb, or are interested in doing some gardening at our school In May & June, or in the fall, please contact Carmen at chinookparkschool.courtyard@gmail.com Time commitment is very flexible!
