We had a blast at the Concert yesterday. Thank you to all our students who showed exemplary skills and mastery in their performances. Thank you to all parents for their attendance and support. We appreciate your time and effort for being part of this amazing event.

Planning for Next year – School Enrollment Survey

This week your child should have brought home a survey on next year’s enrollment and preferences. Thank you to all parents who completed and returned the survey. If this has not been done, please send it ASAP. This survey supports us in creating our class lists and in ensuring we have accurate enrollment counts for next year.

Kamp Kiwanis

Kamp Kiwanis is a bit different than most summer camps. Most summer camps have a first come, first served approach to registering their campers. Since Kamp Kiwanis aims to provide a summer camp experience for children who would otherwise have no opportunity to attend a summer camp, our registration process is based upon a nomination system.

If you feel that your family qualifies and are interested in having your grade 4, 5 or 6 child nominated for a summer camp placement, please email the school (chinookpark@cbe.ab.ca). For more information, please check out their website: https://www.kampkiwanis.ca/summer-camp. Please note that a nomination does not guarantee a spot.

Online Forms

It has been brought to our attention that some parents have not completed consent forms for "CBE use of Student information by News Media and Outside groups". As we may host events where other organizations visit schools throughout the year, we must have completed forms for every student. Parents will be notified whenever third parties will be attending or have attended events or activities. Information gathered at these events becomes public and may be published, broadcast, sold to other media outlets, or posted on websites and social media by a third party. CBE cannot control or prevent the distribution or use of student personal information once it is made public. Parents need to sign this form for either decision they make. If parents' consent to use of student information, they are agreeing that some of their child’s image, first name, initial of surname, grade, and/or school name may be shared with third parties at school events, activities, or non-public events when third parties have been invited, including media.

Forms could be completed online via your parent account. Please log onto your MyCBE account, click on "online forms", complete the form, and submit. If you do not have a parent account, please call the office to set up one. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the office.

Nation’s Vision Next Week

We are hosting a clinic next week for all students who returned the consent form. If you have not returned the form and would like your child to participate, please return the form on Monday.

The Nation's Vision process is a 3-stage comprehensive eyecare service:

Phase 1 - The ophthalmic technicians and teleophthalmologist assess students, obtaining pertinent clinical history and performing comprehensive examinations as part of a screening process to identify patients in need of further evaluation by an optometrist or specialist. We screen 40 to 60 students a day.

Phase 2 - Optometrists or specialists will then come to the school and complete the eye exams onsite. Students requiring glasses will be offered the chance to pick out glasses. Typically, 12 to 20 students are assessed per day depending on complexity.

Phase 3 - Opticians return to the school and customize the glasses for each student.

Message from Woodman School - Artificial Intelligence and Education: A Conversation with Educators and Parents

Woodman School Council is excited to present Dr. Sarah Eaton from the Werklund School of Education (U of C) on the evening of Monday May 13 at 6pm, both in person and online (join the presentation).

This presentation will delve into the broad ethical and practical implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for education.  Teaching, learning, and assessing have become increasingly complex with the emergence of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) apps and tools that students can access freely or at a low cost.  In this talk, Dr. Eaton provides insights into how Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT and similar apps are impacting education.  Dr. Eaton will share insights from a recent research project she is leading at the Werklund School of Education.

Please confirm your attendance by emailing parentcouncilwoodman@gmail.com by May 8.
