Bon Vendredi! Happy Friday!

This week began with a slow start thanks to Monday’s snowstorm, but our students made the most of it, enjoying plenty of fun in the snow! We were also excited to welcome Elev8 Lacrosse, who introduced their sport to most of our students. A special shoutout goes to our Grade 6 students for their excellent efforts during Thursday’s DELF exam—we’re so proud of their hard work! Finally, we’re looking forward to seeing all our families during Parent-Teacher Interviews this Thursday and Friday.

School Development Plan

Each year, schools create a plan to improve student learning, aligned with Alberta Education and CBE's Education Plan | 2024-2027. This year, our School Development Plan (SDP) focuses on enhancing numeracy through intentional learning design and discipline-specific vocabulary.

We’ll share more about our SDP at the next School Council meeting on November 27. See you there!

Holiday Food Drive

This holiday season our school will be participating in the Calgary Food Bank – Mayor's 36th Annual Food Drive. From November 27 through December 13, we will be collecting nonperishable food items, as well as monetary donations (made directly online) for Calgary families.

Students may bring items to their classrooms, as well, there will be a drop off box outside the school office.

Online donations: www.calgaryfoodbank.com/mayorsfooddrive

“An exciting event within the Mayor’s annual campaign is the Councillor’s Challenge! The challenge is between each of the 14 Wards to raise funds and food for the Calgary Food Bank. By bringing together all Councillors and their Ward we are amplifying our voices and presenting a united front to support the community.”

Thank you for your generosity!

Chinook Park Closet

Many families have asked about donating warm winter clothing. We did not partner with an organization; however, we have been filling the need within our own school community. We are able to clean, sort and distribute internally.

If you have donations of sweaters, jackets, snow pants, mittens or tuques. You are welcome to drop them off at the school office. Any excess will be donated to the appropriate agency.

Calling All Parent Volunteers for Wellness Initiatives!

We are looking for parents who are interested in volunteering to support wellness, health and safety initiatives for our students. This year, we’re taking a fresh approach! Instead of parents helping out during a single full-day event, we are planning monthly smaller wellness presentations on Fridays between February and June.

If you have knowledge or skills in areas related to wellness, health or safety —such as gardening, mindfulness, nutrition, finances, sleep, reducing screen time, breathing techniques, fitness, first aid, stress management, ergonomics, or any other wellness, health or safety topic—we will send up a signup in the new year.

Reminder: Scholastic Book Fair Starts Next Week!

Dear Chinook Park Families,

Don’t forget, our school is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair during parent teacher interviews in the library from:

  • November 28th 4pm-8pm
  • November 29th 8am-12pm

All purchases benefit our school and earn Rewards that can be redeemed for books and Education Resources for our school’s library.

A flyer was sent home this week with information.  When you visit the book fair don't forget enter the draw for your child to win $25 to go towards anything at the book fair.  Plus, check out the teacher’s wish list on the library bulletin board if you would like to donate a book to the classroom.

Thanks for your support!

School Council Fundraiser

Our school is fundraising with Mabel’s Labels! If you’re not familiar with Mabel’s Labels, they make personalized, durable, waterproof labels. Mabel’s Labels also offers clothing stamps and silicone bands for water bottles! This is a great way to ensure your items don’t end up in the lost & found or mixed up.
