Bon Vendredi,
Happy Friday,
We had another busy week of fun activities! On Tuesday, our Grade 5 and 6 students welcomed 2 presenters from the City of Calgary to talk about community engagement. The students had the chance to share their thoughts on games from Kingsland Popup Park and ideas for the new park. It was a great opportunity for them to get involved and have their voices heard.
On Wednesday, our Grade 1/2 regular program students enjoyed a fun field trip to the Calgary Farmyard. We had great weather, and the students loved spending time on the ziplines, trampolines, animals and learning more about pumpkin lifecycles and animals.
Now that the weather is feeling more autumn-like, please make sure students are dressed appropriately for the cooler mornings and warmer afternoons. Coats and hoodies are often left outside, so adding names to your children’s gear can help items find their way back. As a reminder, we go outside for recess and outdoor activities unless the weather is extreme—such as heavy rain, poor air quality, or temperatures below -20°C. Please prepare accordingly!
Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!
Staffing update
We are happy to share that after another increase in our school population we were able to welcome back Ms. Nicole Jocson to our teaching staff to take on a class in our grade ¾ group! Nicole has previously taught this grade level and was a great addition to our staff: she is excited to be back!
Although a change during the school year can be disruptive, this new class will support class sizes in that grade team, and we are happy that we were able to take action this early in the school year!
Second Fire Drill
On Monday, we had our second fire drill. Our students did an excellent job. They followed instructions calmly and efficiently - great work, everyone!
CBE School Survey
Every year, students in grades 4,5 and 6 participate in an online school perception survey called the OurSCHOOL Student Survey. Chinook Park will complete this next Tuesday and Wednesday. CBE’s Education Plan prioritizes student voice and well-being in our decision-making processes. Responses from this survey are used at the system and school level to recognize and improve what is necessary for students to feel safe, welcome, and cared for when at school.
Please find details of the survey implementation in the parent letter attached.
Jump Math
École Chinook Park School will be continuing to use JUMP Math as a tool to support our mathematics programming. JUMP math is aligned with Alberta's new curriculum, and we received positive feedback from families last year. Each student will receive two JUMP Math books throughout the year.
A big thank you to Chinook Park School Council for providing these books for our students!
IPPs
Next week, parents who have children working on an Individual Program Plan (IPP) can expect their child’s IPP to come home. Please review the document and sign and return the signature page. Should you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher.
