ECPS Weekly - October 16-20
Bon Vendredi!
Happy Friday!
We are pleased to share with you that we were able to add two part-time teaching positions to provide extra support to our students in varying capacities!
- Ms. Erin Carpenter has started this week and will be supporting our English as an Additional Language Learners in the school.
- Ms. Kim Leroux will be supporting some of our learners with numeracy and literacy in our Regular and French Immersion program.
Our students and staff have been very busy with learning activities, including harvesting our courtyard bounty of several pumpkins! Now that our weather is looking more autumn-like, please make sure that your child(ren) are dressed appropriately. With cooler mornings and warmer afternoons, coats and hoodies may be left outside. Putting names in your child(ren)’s winter gear will help ensure that any items left outside make it back to the owner. We go outside for recess breaks and outdoor activities unless it is raining significantly, a poor air quality index or if the temperature drops below –20 degrees Celsius, so please prepare accordingly!
CBE School Survey
Next week we will start the OurSchool Surveys in grade 4, 5 and 6. More information will be sent from Ms. Poole to families in those grades.
Jump Math
École Chinook Park School will be continuing to use JUMP Math as a tool to support our mathematics programming. JUMP math is aligned with Alberta's new curriculum, and we received positive feedback from families last year. Each student will receive two JUMP Math books throughout the year.
A big thank you to Chinook Park School Council for providing these books for our students!
IPPs
This week, parents who have children working on an Individual Program Plan (IPP) can expect their child’s IPP to come home. Please review the document and sign and return the signature page. Should you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher.
Jacket Racket
The Jacket Racket campaign is running once again through the month of October. If you have winter gear that your family no longer requires and you wish to donate it, please send it to the school between now and October 31st. We are happy to accept any size winter jackets, mittens, snow pants, toques and boots that are clean and in good condition. These will be sent to Jacket Racket for redistribution to families in need across the city.
If you are in need of some winter clothing for your child, please reach out to Mrs. Poole via chinookpark@cbe.ab.ca.
We are looking for a parent volunteer to deliver the collected items to Jacket Racket’s distribution centre on Friday, November 3rd between 10 a.m. and noon in the Foothills industrial area. If you are able to do this, please let Mrs. Poole know.
Chinook Park free pantry
Thank you to everyone who has donated to Chinook Park free pantry. If you are interested in donating food items, we are happily accepting donations of dry goods, school snacks, kid-friendly treats and personal hygiene items. The most pressing need is snacks in any form. We have an Amazon wish list for those who choose to donate that way and donations can be given to your child's teacher or the office. https://www.amazon.ca/hz/wishlist/ls/20AK7HFGZQ69G?ref_=wl_share
Please keep in mind we have no fridge to store fresh/frozen items and please ensure all donations have not passed the expiration date.
If you wish to access the pantry for your family, there are several ways to do so. We are happy to prepare a bag to send home with your child if you contact us with your immediate needs. Additionally, you can come to the office personally during school hours and we will find you what you need. Finally, if you email your child's teacher or Mme Katie knmaclean@cbe.ab.ca someone can have a bag ready for you to pick up at the front office at an arranged time.
Have a question?
To get in touch with your child’s classroom teacher, email is the preferred method of communication. Please refer to the updated contact list below:
