ECPS Weekly – October 19 to 23
Bon vendredi!
Happy Friday!
Another great week at Chinook Park, and we certainly can't complain about the beautiful fall weather! It was great to have Rhythm Rhythm Rhythm back at our school and to see students enjoying the experience during Music. Thank you for coming back to spend time with us! Just a reminder that there is no school for students on Monday for our Professional Development Day. You may still see lots of activity around the school, as staff will be learning together in the library and our gym will be used as a polling station for the referendum. Have a wonderful long weekend!
Upcoming Lockdown Practice
Each year, our school participates in two lockdown practices with the Calgary Police Service. Police select the dates and are present at the school during the event. Our first practice will be this Thursday. Teachers will prepare students by reviewing what a lockdown drill looks like and what students and staff are expected to do.
Café Jasette
This Friday, our French Immersion classes will be enjoying Café Jasette, a chance for students to practice their French through relaxed conversations with their peers. Students are invited to bring a drink or small treat to enjoy during their “coffee chats.” Students are also collecting “Je parle en français” coupons for using their French throughout the school!
Literacy and Numeracy Screeners
In September, students in Grades 1–5 completed the provincially mandated literacy and numeracy screeners. These are diagnostic assessments that provide a snapshot of specific skills and help teachers identify targeted in-class strategies to support student learning. They are not a progress report or a reflection of a student’s overall achievement. Results will be shared with families during the last week of October, along with additional information from CBE. We will also share more information at our next School Council meeting at the end of the month.
CBE Survey Consent
We will be completing the CBE Wellness Survey with Gr 4-6 students the week of November 2nd.
Families must complete their Verification forms on their School Engage account through PowerSchool to give consent or by signing the written consent form.
Please see attached CBE Student Survey Parent Letter
Halloween
Great Pumpkin Contest
We are looking forward to having some Halloween fun at École Chinook Park School again this year! Bringing back tradition, we want to invite our Chinook Park families to participate in the Great Pumpkin Contest. Students are encouraged to use their imagination and creativity to create a pumpkin to display in our main hall. Students will see all designs and judging will be done by members of our school community. Prizes will be awarded for the following categories:
Spooky | Funny | School Spirit |
Scare Factor Creative Design Attention to Detail
| Laugh Factor Creative Idea Overall Presentation
| School Connection (students, school, community or values Creative Design Positive Message |
Bring your creative pumpkin on the morning of Friday, October 30th. Please make a name tag with your child's name and the pumpkin category to be displayed with your pumpkin. We ask that the pumpkins be picked up at noon on the same day.
Costume Parade
On the 30th, students are welcome to come dressed in their Halloween costumes or orange and black clothing. A friendly reminder that there are no weapons and scary or gory accessories at home.
Parents/guardians and grandparents are invited to a whole school costume parade at 9 am. If you want to attend, please come in through the office entrance and gather in the gym to cheer on our students!
Jacket Racket
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our Calgary Jacket Racket collection so far! We’ll continue accepting clean, gently used winter clothing and gear at the front office until October 23.
Student Advisory Group
We’re excited to hear more from our students!
Two representatives from each class will meet with school administration throughout the year to share their ideas and feedback. Our first lunchtime meetings will be November 4 and 5.
Message from school council
October school council meeting
Join us on Wednesday, October 28 from 6:30–8:00 p.m. for our next School Council meeting. You can attend in person in the staff room or join us online through Microsoft Teams. Teachers will be sharing information about the Alberta Education screeners for Grades 1–5, including an explanation of the reports that will be sent home to families. We will also take a look at the School Council planned budget for the year. Everyone is welcome!
Fun Lunch
Dear Parents/Guardians,
At the end of this month, Wednesday October 28, will be our first Fun Lunch fundraising event, lunch provided by Little Caesar’s. The last day to order is Friday, October 23, the website automatically cuts orders off at 11:59pm. We have no capacity to accept late orders.
If you would like to place an order, please register your student(s) on the Healthy Hunger website at https://healthyhunger.ca/index.php. Once you have completed your registration you will be able to view this event and the order form. Please note that the school to register for is "Chinook Park”.
The order form provides the option of making an additional donation to the fundraiser. If you wish to do so, select “Additional Donation to BB4CK Program Students” to donate in $1 increments, or “Purchase a student supported by the BB4CK Program a meal” to buy a complete meal at cost for these students.
These specific donations are used towards purchasing every student in our school supported by the Brown Bag 4 Calgary Kids Program a meal for Fun Lunch events. YOUR GENEROSITY MATTERS: without your donations we would be unable to cover the cost of these meals. THANK YOU! If your family is able, we greatly appreciate your continued generosity so that we can continue providing this program each Fun Lunch. Any additional funds above providing BB4CK meals go back to Student Council funds.
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS to help these events run smoothly- to assure students receive their lunches in a timely manner. If you already have approved security clearance through our school and wish to volunteer, click the below link:

This is only a half hour time commitment, and is a great way to help out and see your child in their school environment.
Please note, on the day of Fun Lunch, if your child is absent their food item(s) will be placed in the fridge. They are stored in the fridge for 24 hours, and then disposed of to be sure we adhere to food safety requirements. It is up to you to pick up your absent child’s food within the 24 hours during school office hours, or to call the office to make alternate arrangements.
If you have any issues or questions, please contact Lindsay Mandry at chinookparkfunfood@gmail.com.
Thank you for supporting our school!
Regards,
Chinook Park School
