Bon vendredi!

Happy Friday!

It was another great week at Chinook Park, and like any Calgary week, the weather kept us on our toes with plenty of ups and downs! Thursday was especially busy in the building as we juggled photo retakes, student vaccinations, and our fall lockdown drill all in one day. While it may have felt like a lot at times, our students did an outstanding job, particularly during the lockdown practice. We conduct these drills twice each year, and members of the Calgary Police Service commented on how calm, respectful, and focused our students were throughout the exercise.

We also enjoyed a great Café Jasette this week, giving students an opportunity to practice their French together. Félicitation à nos superstars de français que nous avons reconnu pour leur effort de participation en français ce mois : Bon travail!

Halloween

Costume Parade

On October 30, students are welcome to come dressed in their Halloween costumes or in orange and black. As you’re choosing costumes, please keep them school-friendly: no weapons, scary masks, or scary/gory costumes or accessories. We have some teachers (and maybe the principal too...) who scare pretty easily! Students will be asked to remove masks and props during lessons to make sure we are ready to learn.

Parents/guardians and grandparents are invited to join us for our whole-school costume parade at 9:00 a.m. Please enter through the main office and gather in the gym to cheer on our students as they parade through!

Great Pumpkin Contest

We are looking forward to having some Halloween fun at École Chinook Park School again this year! Bringing back tradition, we want to invite our Chinook Park families to participate in the Great Pumpkin Contest. Students are encouraged to use their imagination and creativity to create a pumpkin to display in our main hall. Students will see all designs and judging will be done by members of our school community. Prizes will be awarded for the following categories:

Lost and Found

All the Lost and Found items will be displayed outside after school on Thursday, November 5th. Please come and grab your child's items, as there are many sweaters!

Lifetouch picture retakes at the studio

If your child missed photo retake day at school, there is still an opportunity to have their school photo taken at a Lifetouch studio. Please see the attached flyer for information on studio locations and how to book an appointment. Families interested in this option are encouraged to contact Lifetouch directly.

Literacy and Numeracy Screeners

In September, students in Grades 1–5 completed the provincially mandated literacy and numeracy screeners. These are diagnostic assessments that provide a snapshot of specific skills and help teachers identify targeted in-class strategies to support student learning. They are not a progress report or a reflection of a student’s overall achievement. Results will be shared with families during the last week of October, along with additional information from CBE. We will also share more information at our next School Council meeting Wednesday.

CBE Survey Consent

We will be completing the CBE Wellness Survey with Gr 4-6 students the week of November 2nd.

Families must complete their Verification forms on their School Engage account through PowerSchool to give consent or by signing the written consent form.

Please see attached CBE Student Survey Parent Letter
