ECPS Weekly - October 30 to November 3
Happy Friday!
Bon Vendredi!
Grade 6 patrollers started this week. Thank you to our students for their leadership and help in keeping our crosswalk safe!
A lot of excitement over the snow this week. We saw great creativity around snow forts and other constructions! We are reminding students that those constructions are temporary and may sometimes get damaged. Students should also keep the snow on the ground and not engage in snowball fights for everybody’s safety.
We were pleased that most students were well prepared for the abrupt change in weather! For more information from the CBE on weather, transportation delays and school operation, please click on this Link.
Halloween Activities
We are looking forward to having some Halloween fun again this year on Tuesday, October 31!
Costume and parade
On the 31st, students are welcome to come dressed in their Halloween costumes. A friendly reminder that some of our staff get scared easily and so do some of our younger students, so please keep weapons or gory accessories at home.
Parents/guardians are invited to a whole school costume parade at 12:45pm. If you want to attend, please come in through the office entrance and we will gather in the gym to cheer on our students!
Great pumpkin contest
In keeping up with this yearly ECPS tradition, all families are invited to participate in our pumpkin carving contest again this year. Please see more information on our website: Link
Remembrance Day Assembly
On November 8, Chinook Park will be hosting an in-person Remembrance Day Assembly. We will be welcoming parents and sharing students’ work and performances. More details will be posted next week.
Volunteers for the Library
Volunteers are needed to support our library’s activities and routine organization. Volunteers are also invited to sign up for the Scholastic Book Fair that will be organized at Chinook Park School on Nov. 23th from 4:00 – 7:30 pm and Nov. 24th . from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. If you are interested, please email our Librarian Ms. Higgins at aahiggins@cbe.ab.ca with the date and time that is most convenient for you.
Reminder: Demographic Verification and Annual Authorization Forms
Annual demographic and authorization forms were sent online at the beginning of the school year. Currently, there are many families who have not returned these electronic forms. Please take the time to complete your forms.
Parents/guardians are reminded that the Demographic Verification and Annual Authorization forms are now submitted through the Calgary Board of Education’s new online forms platform: SchoolEngage. To get to SchoolEngage, sign in through the MyCBE portal using this link: https://sis.cbe.ab.ca/public/ (an account is required). Once signed in, select the tile or link titled “Online Forms and School Registration”. By submitting the Demographic Verification, the school will now have the most up to date contact and emergency information. This information is essential for the safety and well-being of your children.
Message from the Patrol team
Patrol Safety!
Patrols have started up and we are excited to help the students cross the road safely! To help the patrollers keep the students of Chinook Park safe please keep in mind the following when walking with your child or driving through the cross walk:
- The patrollers have a 5-step procedure and will blow the whistle 2 times before the students cross the road. They will say Point- Whistle- Double Check- Proceed- Whistle; after the second whistle it is safe to cross.
- When the patrollers arms are blocking the crosswalk, it is unsafe to cross. Please wait for them to drop their arms.
- When driving through the crosswalk please wait until the patrollers' stop signs are down.
- Do not park in the crosswalk.
Thanks for your help in keeping our students safe at the crosswalk!
Additional drop-off reminders
Everyone’s safety is very important around the school. This week, with the change in the weather, we are noticing a very busy back alley. If you are using the alley for drop-off and pick-up, please use the “unofficial” one-way traffic from the west entrance to the east and stay on the right, leave space between cars when dropping off your student and be on the lookout for students crossing the alley before moving on.
Please do not use the crosswalk area as a drop off and be on the lookout for people crossing the alleyway.
