ECPS Weekly - September 18-22

Bon Vendredi,

Happy Friday,

It was nice to see many families at the Welcome Back BBQ last night. Many thanks to the School Council volunteers who organized the event. Please see the note below for ways you can become involved in this fun and important work!

This week we hosted some visitors to our school including our Area 6 Director, M. Martin Poirier, MLA Calgary-Glenmore Nagwan Al-Guneid and CBE School Trustee Nancy Close. A few of our grade 5 students greeted them at the door and offered a small tour of the school. We are very proud of the leadership of our students and intend to have many opportunities to practice our skills throughout the year.

Several of our classes celebrated International Dot Day today by reading “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds, meeting with buddy classes, wearing dots and creating dot-themed art. Click here for more information about this day.

Meet the Teacher Reminder

Thursday Evening

We are excited to welcome our families to École Chinook Park School on Thursday, September 21, 2023. All classes and school spaces will be open for you to visit and meet your child’s teacher. We will have an open house format, similar to last year. Feel free to pop into your child(ren)’s classroom between 5:30 – 7:30. All classroom teachers will be offering a brief presentation at 5:30, 6:00, 6:30 and 7:00 to showcase their routines and snapshots of what a day looks like in their room. Please book a time slot through your MyCBEaccount. Each time slot will accommodate eight families. Feel free to create your own schedule to see all of your child(ren)’s teachers.

Friday

If your child has an Individual Program Plan (IPP), teachers will be reaching out to set up preliminary conversations around goals for this year for Friday, September 22. If you require a one-on-one conversation this early in the school year, please discuss it with your child’s teacher directly.

Kindergarten

The meet and greet will look a little bit different for our students in Kindergarten as Mme. Corine and Ms. Leroux would like more time to talk to individual families. You will receive an email with the booking information soon.

Transportation

Transportation is currently working to support our students in the Windsor Park area with a bus route. We are confident that a solution will be coming soon. Thank you for your patience.

Reminder- Online Forms

Thank you for all parents who completed the online forms. Please make sure that the demographic and consent forms have been completed. Some of these documents are related to our activities and we would like to ensure that we have the correct information/consents on file.

School Pictures

School pictures have been scheduled for September 21.  Students will have both Class and Individual pictures taken on this day. Retakes for individual pictures will be on October 26.

Looking for Volunteers

The Ecole Chinook Park School Council organizes a number of events, programs and initiatives throughout the year that enhance student experiences and build a strong sense of community around the school. In order to put on all of these great programs and events, we rely entirely on volunteers from the school community.

This year we are looking to fill a few executive positions on School Council as well as volunteers to lead individual events and committees. If you are interested in volunteering or are curious about what might be involved, please reach out to Katie McKinnon, School Council Chair at chinookparkchair@gmail.com

For parents interested in learning French!

Chinook Learning Services offers courses specifically designed for parents and caregivers of CBE French Immersion students. For Fall 2023, Chinook Learning Services is once again offering French for Parents – Level 1 classes. This eight-week course will help parents of bilingual students learn or refresh their French language skills, build their network of bilingual parents and support their children’s learning at home.

This course would also be beneficial for any Support Staff who are interested in learning along with parents!
