Bon Vendredi,

Happy Friday,

It has been another full week at École Chinook Park School! On Orange Shirt Day, it was wonderful to see a sea of orange throughout the building. Students and staff really showed their support by wearing orange. Everyone also contributed to our temporary Chinook Park ground mural installation by adding their handprints in orange paint, making it a meaningful and creative way to show our learning together. We have also begun patroller training and look forward to seeing our student patrollers helping keep everyone safe at the crosswalk in the coming weeks. On Wednesday evening, it was great to see such strong participation at our School Council AGM. We are grateful to have all positions filled and look forward to another year of collaboration and community.

September 30th is TRC day

Sept. 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. This is an important time to reflect and honour Indigenous histories, stories, and voices. Many local events, school activities, and gatherings are planned throughout the city.

If you’re looking for more information on what’s happening — especially family-friendly events and school involvement — you can check out the Calgary Board of Education’s page: September marks Truth & Reconciliation at the CBE

Weekly Library Volunteer Opportunity

We are looking for a volunteer to assist with shelving books at the library once a week.

  • When: Your choice of Monday or Tuesday between 9am-2:30pm
  • Time Commitment: 1–2 hours per week
  • Duties: Shelving returned books and organizing library materials

Walking distance trips

Every year, we update a letter about walking distance field trips, so we are able to access great walking distance locations around our school without sending and collecting forms. Staff will still communicate with parents when going out to these locations 48 hours in advance.

Please find attached our 2025-2026 version.

Jacket Racket Calgary

Our school will be participating in the Calgary Jacket Racket donation collection From October 14-24th. Please bring clean and gently used jackets, snow pants, boots, mittens, gloves, tuques and/or scarves to the front office. All child or adult sizes are accepted. Let’s help keep Calgary families warm this winter!

Message from the CBE

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join a live online series on supporting child and youth well-being. The series is hosted by the Recovery Alberta Community Education Service (CES) Program in collaboration with local experts from the Calgary community.

Attached to this email is a poster with sessions designed to provide families with knowledge, tools, and strategies to help navigate the challenges and opportunities of raising children and teens today. Along with the poster, additional session details are available on the Child and Youth Family and Caregiver Series public facing page.

We kindly ask that you share this information with your school families in your next communication, or whenever you feel it is most appropriate.

Thank you for supporting student Well-Being by helping us share these resources with families.

Casino Fundraiser Volunteer Update

We’re fully covered during the day on both Monday, October 6 and Tuesday, October 7 — thank you!

We still need a few more volunteers in the evenings:

  • Monday, Oct 6: 4 more at 6:45 pm and 1 more at 11:15 pm
  • Tuesday, Oct 7: 5 more at 6:45 pm

No experience is required — a paid advisor will be on-site to guide everyone, and we’ll make sure roles fit well.

If you’ve already signed up, thank you! If your availability changes, please let us know as soon as possible.

This is a fun event, and every volunteer hour has a huge impact: each hour is worth about $225 toward our children’s education. Over two days, the casino raises about $60,000, which directly supports programs like artists-in-residence, robotics, and other enrichment opportunities for every student.

If you’d like to help decide how funds are spent, join an upcoming council session.
