Bon Vendredi! Happy Friday!

While the weather wasn’t always on our side this week, students and staff made the most of the brighter moments and continued to stay focused and engaged in learning. It was a calmer week at school, which allowed everyone to settle into routines. Learning remains strong across all grades, with teachers now turning their attention to year-end assessments and planning for next year.

Now that Spring is in full swing, next week we will be going to classrooms to remind students about proper recess behaviour and problem solving with peer conflict. There is a lot of energy and excitement as we approach the end of the school year.

As we head into the May long weekend, we want to wish all our families a safe and relaxing break. We hope you enjoy the extra time together!

Culture Day

May 21 is Culture Day!

On that day, students come to school wearing clothing or bring items from their respective cultures to share with their class community. Students are also welcome to check-in with their teachers if they want to bring in any cultural regalia, instruments, items of significance or food to share with their class.

Next Year Planning – We Need Your Input!

Thank you to all the families who have already completed our planning survey for next year — we’re currently at a 25% response rate. Congratulations to the first 10 families who submitted their responses! Their children will receive school apparel this Tuesday.

🎉 Once we hit 250 submissions, we’ll be holding a prize draw — so don’t miss your next chance to be entered!

Each spring, we ask families to fill out a short survey to help us prepare for the upcoming school year. Your responses are essential for planning class configurations, staffing, and resource allocation. The more accurate our data, the better we can serve our students.

Fun Lunch

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Wednesday May 21 will be our next Fun Lunch fundraising event, lunch provided by Extreme Pita. The last day to order is this Friday, May 16th, the website automatically cuts orders off at 11:59pm. We have no capacity to accept late orders. This event is for students grades 1-6, please do not order for kindergarteners as they do not eat lunch in class.

If you would like to place an order, please register your student(s) on the Healthy Hunger website at https://healthyhunger.ca/index.php. Once you have completed your registration you will be able to view this event and the order form. Please note that the school to register for is "Chinook Park”. Be sure to choose your toppings through the website, otherwise the pita will come plain.

The order form also provides the option of making an additional donation to the fundraiser. If you wish to do so, select “Brown Bag Donation Program” to donate in $1 increments. These specific donations are used towards purchasing every student supported by the Brown Bag Program a meal every Fun Lunch event.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS to help these events run smoothly- to assure students receive their lunches in a timely manner. If you already have approved security clearance through our school and wish to volunteer, click the below link:

Thank you for supporting our school!

Treasurer Position - School Council

As we look ahead to next year, our School Council is in need of a new treasurer. This is an important role that helps support many of the great initiatives at Chinook Park. If you’re interested, we encourage you to reach out to our School Council Chair to learn more. Sharing your interest at this time, is an opportunity to learn the ropes alongside our current treasurer to help ensure a smooth transition

Courtyard Help

Calling all Green Thumbs! The chinook park garden and courtyard committee is looking for volunteers to help with general garden maintenance and cleanup of the garden beds.  We are currently planting the vegetable garden bed, tending the pollinator garden beds and looking to tidy up and replant in the flower garden at the front of the school. The goal is to have students involved as much as possible but there is plenty more to be done in this amazing outdoor space. Time commitment is as much or little as you'd like.  A valid police check is required if you are there during school hours.

First courtyard tidy up will be Tuesday, May 20 (May 21 if the weather is not cooperating)

Please email Carmen at chinoolparkschool.courtyard@gmail.com if you are interested in helping out later this month or on a regular basis.

Popcorn Fundraiser

The Grade 6 Farewell and Legacy Project Committee is selling Kernels Popcorn to raise money in support of the Grade 6 farewell celebration and the Grade 6 legacy project.

Several flavours of popcorn are available. Popcorn is individually packaged and shelf stable for two months, additional bags can be purchased and sent home to eat at a later date if you choose. The last day to order is FRIDAY JUNE 6. Popcorn will be delivered to school on June 11.

Orders should be placed through the Healthy Hunger website: healthyhunger.ca
